Dental Veneer Procedure and Aftercare: What to Expect
The dental veneer procedure fixes broken, gapped or discolored teeth. See the steps, the cost of about Rp 5 million per tooth, and how long veneers last.
Dental veneers repair the structure and color of teeth. Teeth that are chipped, damaged, crooked, gapped or discolored can all be corrected with veneers, which have long been a staple of cosmetic dentistry. The goal is a neater smile with a clean white shade that matches the natural color of the tooth. Veneers are not cheap. A single tooth usually carries a dental veneer price of roughly 5 million rupiah, and that does not include the care required while the veneer is in place. Veneers last about 5 to 10 years, after which they need to be replaced because they wear out. The dental veneer procedure goes as follows:
- The dentist first checks whether any enamel, the outermost layer of the tooth, needs to be shaved down to fit the veneer. This keeps the veneer from sticking out and damaging the tooth structure. About 0.5 mm of enamel is removed.
- The dentist takes an impression of your mouth with a putty-like material so the veneer will match the size of your teeth and mouth. Making a veneer takes at least 1 to 2 weeks.
- The dentist then bonds the veneer onto the tooth.
After all of this is done, the dentist will ask you to come back to check how the veneer sits. The dentist will also check the condition of your gums. The time needed to prepare for veneer placement varies from person to person, depending on how severe the tooth damage is. Veneers can also be used by people who want bunny teeth. Veneer care is much the same as regular dental care: clean them twice a day by brushing or flossing. You also need to see your dentist for routine veneer checkups.
