Sewing machine care made simple: clean after each use, oil moving parts once a week, replace broken parts fast and call a skilled repair technician.

A sewing machine at home

Whether an item is expensive or not, anything useful should be looked after properly. A home sewing machine is one example, and it turns out it needs some special care. Here are tips for looking after one.

1. Clean It Right After You Finish Sewing

When you finish sewing, it is best to clean your sewing machine right away. Remove leftover fabric scraps with a small brush or a vacuum cleaner to suck up the leftover threads. Cleaning right away keeps the scraps from piling up for a long time and becoming hard to clean later. Leftover fabric and thread can also affect respiratory health.

2. Apply Special Sewing Machine Oil

A home sewing machine has parts that move every time we use it. To keep them from jamming and wearing out, apply oil. Don't use just any oil on a sewing machine, because it can cause damage such as rust. Use the special sewing machine oil sold on the market. Apply the oil to the levers and to the holes where nuts or bolts connect the frame. Do this once a week to keep your sewing machine lasting.

3. Replace Damaged Parts Promptly

Sewing machine parts rarely break, but when one does, it must be replaced as soon as possible. If a broken part is not replaced promptly, it will cause other damage and the quality of your sewing machine will decline.

4. Take It to a Repair Technician

If your sewing machine breaks and you can't fix it yourself, take it to a skilled repair technician. Sewing machine technicians can often be called to your home. Be careful in choosing one, too. It isn't that technicians lack skill, but some simply don't suit your machine and so fail to fix the problem. If you find a technician who works well with your sewing machine, become a regular customer.

Those are some tips for caring for your home sewing machine. We hope they are useful and add to your knowledge about sewing machines.
